How Does the Donors Bill of Rights Protect Donors?

Founded in 2010, United Charitable provides expertise in philanthropic gift-giving and is dedicated to following the highest standards in the industry with respect to charitable gifting and fundraising. United Charitable operates in compliance with the Donor Bill of Rights, which was established by industry regulating authorities such as the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) to protect the interests of donors.

The Donor Bill of Rights ensures donors are protected by stating that they must be informed about the missions of the organizations they are donating to, and how their donated gifts and resources will be used. Donors also have the right to know the identity of those serving on the governing board of the organizations managing their donations.

According to the Donor Bill of Rights, donors must have access to the financial statements of the organizations they’ve donated to. Donors must be told if hired solicitors, employees of an organization, or volunteers are requesting their information. Information related to the donors and their donations must be treated with confidentiality and respect. That being said, donors must also be granted proper recognition for their philanthropic activities.
